Six Ministers Set To Quit Jonathan’s Cabinet

 


As preparations for 2015 general elections gather momentum, indications are rife that ministers with open ambition to contest elective positions in public offices will tender their letters of resignation any moment.
About six ministers in this category are now ready to quit President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet in October, most of them having concluded arrangements to that effect. The ministers mostly interested in becoming the governors of their respective states are expected to resign their appointments so as to pursue their governorship desire on the People Democratic Party platform.

 he ministers with the governorship ambitions include Senator Bala Muhammed (Federal Capital Territory), Mr. Labaran Maku (Information), Chief Emeka Wogu (Labour), Mr. Nyesom Wike (State, Education), Dr. Samuel Ortom (State, Trade, Bala-MohammedIndustry and Investment) and Senator Musiliu Obanikoro (State, Defence).
Muhammed is aiming to take over from Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State; Maku aims at replacing Governor Tank Al-Makura of Nassarawa State and therefore win the state currently being ruled by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Emeka Wogu is believed to be nursing the ambition to succeed Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State.
Wike is aiming at taking over from Governor Rotimi Amaechi in Rivers State; Ortom aiming to take over from Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State and Obanikoro to take over from Fashola in Lagos.
Prof. Sylvester Monye, the President’s Special Adviser on Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation aims at becoming the Delta State Governor after Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan.
Their imminent resignation is expected to lead to a major shakeup in the Federal Executive Council.
A source said the ministers’ exit would lead to the constitution of “election cabinet” by the President.

“It is therefore important that the list be forwarded to the senators before everybody will be engrossed in election matters in their various constituencies,” the source said
