2015: Peace Talks Between PDP And Obasanjo Reaches Dead End

Moves by the President Jonathan and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to garner support from former President Olusegun Obasanjo ahead of 2015 elections has reached a dead end.
 
According to report, President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP have been trying to woo Obasanjo since December to support Jonathan's 2015 ambition to return for a second tenure.
It was, however, gathered from a member of the PDP Board of Trustees who pleaded anonymity that the former President had not changed his position, particularly on how the PDP should be run and the need for the President to honour his alleged pledge not to contest the 2015 presidential poll.
"Obasanjo’s demands, particularly on the President and the 2015 elections are difficult to meet. Inasmuch as we need him, we cannot meet all his demands, particularly that Jonathan should honour the so-called agreement not to contest the 2015 election," the source said.
When contacted, an associate of Obasanjo and a former National Auditor of the party, Chief Bode Mustapha, said that the issues raised by the former president had not been addressed.
Another source in the National Working Committee of the party said talks were on-going on the matter.
Recall that Obasanjo had in December, 2013 written a letter to the President saying it would be wrong for Jonathan to contest in 2015 and Jonathan had replied that Obasanjo’s claims were wrong.
