Bukola Saraki Barred From Using Presidential Gate???

Senator Bukola Saraki, who was charged with 13 counts of corruption and made to face the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Tuesday, September 22, reportedly faced another hitch as he tried to gain access through the gate of the presidential villa.

The senate president’s convoy was reportedly told by the operatives to turn back and make use of the main gate from the federal secretariat.
When accused of insolence, the security personnel in defense, allegedly said their orders were from above.
Meanwhile, the parliamentarian, who pleaded not guilty to 13 counts of corruption leveled against him, has claimed that the allegations of corruption were made by the people who do not like the fact that he is the Senate president.
His claims were made in a statement released by his media aide, Yusuph Olaniyonu.

The statement noted that Saraki was singled out for prosecution because of his position as the Senate president.

Saraki, in his statement, also thanked his colleagues and supporters who came to the court in droves to stand by in him, promised to rid his name of every dent.

He said: “It is however necessary for me to thank my colleagues in the Senate for the solid support and solidarity they demonstrated for me. I also thank my counsel for the brilliance they have shown in presenting our case and the supporters who were present in the tribunal in their hundreds. I want to assure you that I am innocent of all the charges and will clear my name in due course.”

The senator, who expressed his displeasure at the trial, reiterated that the trial did not follow due process.

There are also some others who believe that the trial of Saraki is politically motivated, one of such people is Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, the former governor of Anambra state.

The elder statesman who spoke to Vanguard on Tuesday, September 22, is of the opinion that the trial was politically engineered with deliberate attempt to ruin the former Kwara governor’s political career.

Chief Chukwuemeka who strongly condemned the trial of the Senate president, said he is averse to witch-hunting with impunity.

He said: “In the name of God Almighty, this country belongs to all of us; it is not good for Nigeria to begin witch hunting with impunity; I am not criticizing any government but let us free Nigeria, Nigeria is for the blacks.

“If Saraki was the biggest thief, we did not know, why did the government wait until he become the Senate president.

“All I am saying is that if Saraki is being removed today as the Senate president, I don’t think he is being removed because of corruption but because of politics.”
