Finish What You Started, Name Pastors Who Received N6bn Bribe – Body Urges Amaechi


The Northern State Christian Elders Forum (NOSCEF) urged Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, to name clerics he accused of receiving bribe.
Earlier this week Amaechi alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) bribed some Christian leaders with N6bn for them to campaign against the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
In response, the PDP dismissed the scandalous claim and characterized it as a “crime to the Church and Christianity”.

According to The Nation, NOSCEF appealed to Governor Amaechi asking him to prove the allegation by providing names of the pastors involved.
This weekend, the body chairman, Elder Olaiya Phillips, issued a statement which read in part:
“The debasement alleged is of the gravest kind. What he alleges, if true, would be a serious indictment of our brethren and he has a duty to reveal what he knows.
“We believe that the choice Nigeria’s elections present must be about the best person for the job in every case, rather than about a candidate’s religion…”
“He Gov. Amaechi  must conclude what he has begun and advise which individuals parading as men of God have fallen in this manner.
“We are anxious to know who these offenders are “so that we may avoid them. It would then be incumbent on the umbrella bodies under whose auspices these “Pastors collected N6bn” to proceed to investigate any such acts of which prima facie evidence is provided.”
It is worth noting that February 7 the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rescheduled the general elections in Nigeria for 6 weeks.
The APC expressed discontent with the decision and called it “highly provocative”. The opposition however urged Nigerians “to remain calm and desist from violence”.
