Amaechi, Wike trade accusation over alleged N3.15 billion contracts

Amaechi, Wike trade accusation over alleged N3.15 billion contracts

According to the Guardian Newspaper Sunday the 21st Dec, 2014, THE Rivers State Governor, Chubuike  Amaechi, and  former Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, have traded accusation over the non-execution of some contracts valued at over N3.15 billion.
The governor, during a courtesy call on the Nyenwe-Ali Akpor Kingdom,  Orlu Oriebe and at the foundation laying ceremony of the proposed Akpor Traditional Centre at Ozuoba, made a fresh allegation against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Wike, of collecting N3.15billion for construction of 14 modern primary schools and Eneka Road in Port Harcourt and not executing the projects.
“You must start now to build APC and massively mobilize for the party ahead of the 2015 election.  This is because I have done enough for the people of Akpor kingdom.  My administration fixed the Ozuoba-Choba road. I even awarded 14 classroom blocks to Nyesom Wike at the cost of N112 million each. But, as you can see, he has not built even a building.  He worships money, while I worship God.  President Goodluck Jonathan does not like us, that is why we must vote out PDP and Jonathan back to Otuoke.  I have developed Ikwerre people, even Wike. My administration gave Wike the contract worth N2 billion to construct Eneka road and he disappeared with the funds”, Amaechi said.

Amaechi said it is time for the people of Akpor kingdom, where Wike hails from, to allow the Riverine people of the state to  produce the next governor in 2015. He urged the people of Akpor kingdom to brace up and massively mobilize for the APC in the 2015 elections as his administration is making frantic efforts to fix the Ogbogoro road soonest.
But Wike’s spokesperson, Emma Okah, described the governor’s allegation as totally baseless and unfounded. According to him, the allegation that Wike collected contracts and failed to execute them was bound out of malice.
“I can see malice for the following reasons, one, the timing. Why has it taken him so long to accuse Wike of not executing contracts, if at all any contract was awarded. The law enforcement agencies are there, why has the Rivers State government not reported Wike to the police, Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)?” he queried.
Okah dared the governor to produce evidence that he actually awarded contracts to Wike. He said it was ironical that the governor would be making spurious allegations against a man he (Amaechi) decided to appoint the director general of his campaign in 2011 and then subsequently nominated him as a minister.
The Wike’s spokesman said the reason the governor has decided to go on the offensive was because he was aware that the former minister and the PDP will win the 2015 polls and so was trying to denigrate him.
Governor Amaechi, also at the weekend during his participation in the free style parade as part of the Rivers State yearly Christmas Carnival 2014, said that only a leader that understands what the problems of the people are and has taken time to think and explore ways to find solution to their problems can govern them well.
According to him, APC will win the governorship election in the state.
“I am very confident that incoming APC governors will sustain the carnival because I do not see APC producing emperors as governors. Listen, the APC must field that statesman, that man who knows and appreciates the pain of the poor; that man who understands that poverty has filled everywhere.”
